NGCC, the 2018 Summer of Love is upon us!

It’s time to get fired up for Jesus! It’s time to fall madly in Love with, King Jesus! So excited for our New Summer Sermon Series, WWJD! Starting Memorial weekend and running through Labor Day Weekend! We will unpack the Greatest Sermon ever Preached in this verse by verse study of the Sermon on the Mount! Jesus teaches us how to live out the Kingdom Agenda… our 2018 theme! Jesus teaches us many important topics that effect our everyday walk with Him! We will also be taking a deeper walk with Jesus on Wednesday Nights as we study the Sermon on the Mount! My prayer is that we fall more deeply in Love with Jesus! And we allow Jesus to teach us to Love others as Jesus Loves us!

We will be answering the Question “What Would Jesus Do” by putting feet to His amazing teachings! Also, I am looking forward to meeting Jesus at the beach this summer for a time of renewal & and a fresh filling of His Holy Spirit Power! Have a Blessed WWJD Summer of Love,

Prayer Action Team

Prayer Action Team has been Meeting to lay the foundation to change the culture in the church to move from being a praying church to become a House of Prayer! As your Pastor I am Extremely excited to make Prayer a priority @ NGCC! You will be seeing Prayer having a more prominent role in our Worship Services! We now have Prayer boxes to write out your prayer requests so we can pray over them in our 9:30 Prayer Service every Sunday! Because of the Prayer Request of an 8 year old child that we shared in our Worship Service it encouraged one of our members to quit smoking as of that day! We also prayed over Ben in our service to receive a Kidney transplant he desperately needs! We still have some work to do but our Prayer Action Team is inspired and committed to answering the call of Jesus to become a House of Prayer!

Discipleship News

I’

I’m sitting here looking at this blank screen and wondering “what am I doing here”? I am not deserving to be a leader in our church, much less write words of wisdom. I miss meetings, work too much, don’t do this job very well and teach on occasion. I have a temper, I’m judgmental at times, I say and do things I shouldn’t and I talk too much. And, if that’s not enough, I ask too many personal questions, I listen to stories and draw probably not the best conclusions and I think I remember everything.

I looked up disciple. Many, many definitions from worldly to Christian. I did the same with discipleship. A disciple is someone who believes and follows the doctrine of another. Discipleship is spreading that doctrine to others. For proclaiming Christians, it is Jesus Christ. The title I hold is Discipleship Director. That title has a job description which apparently implies the directing of the Christian doctrine in our church to others. I confess, I don’t do this as well as others probably do. I am a professing Christian, but I have faults and will never be perfect in this lifetime. Discipleship is spreading the good news of Jesus Christ to others. I try my best through teaching and listening. The old/new class I am starting is aimed toward the 18-30+ year old group. We will discuss applicable topics on Sunday mornings in the prayer room. Our first lesson or discussion will be this simple question: Why did Jesus get on that cross? Come join us and let’s discuss this together. Throughout the summer we will touch on topics as simple but interesting as well.
Back to my first paragraph. My dad was my greatest mentor growing up. I wanted to be just like him and apparently, I’ve come very close. He loved God while he was alive and we prayed together when he died. There is no doubt where he is. Matthew 28 leaves us with a command to make disciples. My dad planted that seed in me. Jesus’ “leader of the band” was Peter. Peter and I are quite alike and if you reread the first paragraph of this letter, you will see similarities between him and I. What an example to follow, hum, he actually sounds human when you look at it as I do. Jesus loved Peter and I can only hope he loves me as well. How about you? Who is your Biblical character? Who are you discipling? What do your actions say? If you are a believer IN Christ, you are a disciple OF Christ.

We would like to welcome our newest Deacon Warren Henley, Warren is a longtime active member of NGCC, who has displayed a dedication and passion for serving the Lord and our church.

Please remember that the first Sunday of the month we always highlight the benevolent fund of the church, this fund is to help the members of the church in times of need.

NGCC Ministry News and Events

Children’s Ministry

Summer is almost upon us and that means one thing… VBS time! This year’s theme is The Wild West! VBS will be held nightly, June 18th through June 22nd from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Each night the children will be engaged in active Bible stories, crafts, games, and snack. We still need help, so if God is touching your heart to help out, please see Lena Lowry or Kim Gayleard.

This is summer the Children’s Ministry will be holding fun events such as Nerf Battle and few surprises! Stay tuned!

Each week we actively teach our children during the church service for children’s church. We want to be able to expand our program to make the teaching more effective for the children to learn God’s Word. In order to do this we need more volunteers to commit to helping out. We only ask for you to volunteer once a month. Please see Lena Lowry if God is leading you to volunteer in this very important and growing ministry. We are asking everyone to please remember for the safety of our children only authorized staff may be in our children areas.

Please note: Anyone that will be working with the children MUST pass a background test prior to working with the children.

Women’s Ministry

The Women’s Ministry is planning to have Potluck Fellowships every month to help the ladies of the church to get to know one another better, to bond with one another so as to love one another more & to become more unified as a ministry. Also, we will be starting a new way to pray for one another to help in the bonding process. Each month we will be contributing to a ministry in some way, such as bringing one item for the food pantry to the fellowships.

My prayer & vision is for the ladies to become SO close to one another that we become almost one entity in Jesus!

Men’s Ministry

Several of the NGCC men participated in 2 big events this spring which mixed ministry, faith-building and fun activities. The 2018 IGNITE Men’s Conference challenged us to take our relationship with Jesus to a deeper level and we also enjoyed a live concert with The Charlie Daniels Band.

The Spike For Life event teamed up some of the younger men in the church with a few “experienced” guys as we combined outreach ministry and fun with sports activity as we played a full-day of competitive volleyball. The event raised over $11,000 for the local area crisis pregnancy centers which is used to help young mothers facing difficult decisions and financial needs and is saving the lives of many precious babies! Praise God !

The summer months and warmer weather will provide opportunities for outdoor activities and additional ministry opportunities. Several ideas have been shared by men of the church and plans are underway to schedule our events. Stay tuned in for announcements at church and online.

Men, let’s encourage our brothers in the faith, lift one another up in our prayers and invite friends who may not yet know Jesus to join us. We can be confident that our God is working in a great way and wants to use us to bring others to Him. Hebrews 10:24 “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”

Building and Grounds

As the warm weather is here the ACs will be running, please, remember to turn them off and close any windows in the church before leaving the room.

Homeless Ministry

The Homeless Ministry meets every 1st Saturday of the month at the church at 9am. We go into the Glen Burnie and Baltimore areas to give out food and clothes to the homeless along with the Word of God! Please join us!

Anyone that would like to help make sandwiches, we make them Friday night before at my house, so please contact me.

Coffee House News

We want to again thank Kim Granger for scheduling over the past couple of months and the ladies of North Glen who have volunteered watching the children during the time of the music at the coffee house (8-10pm). If you find this is your calling to continue this ministry to bring families into the coffee house and these families possibly led to return on Sunday and then led to join our church family, please see Julie Drenning.

Additional help is needed with serving food during the coffee house and cleaning up afterwards. It is much appreciated when those who come help to place the church back in order for Sunday morning.

Upcoming Concerts

On July 21st, we will be having a band perform for their first time. Please come and welcome “Instruments of Grace” from a small church in Relay, MD called Grace Reformed Presbyterian Church. This band offers praises to our Lord in jubilant song, from orginal music to songs often heard from Chris Tomlin, Big Daddy Weaver, Matt Maher, Indelible Grace, Steven Curtis Chapman and many other Christian artists. The group performs often outside of its own congregation to strengthen and encourage followers of Christ in all walks of life.
